In January 2015, Carl’s Jr. launched an online commercial featuring model Charlotte McKinney promoting their new All-Natural Burger during Super Bowl XLIX. The ad sparked controversy, with critics arguing that it “sets women’s rights back four decades,” while others, including McKinney’s elderly grandfather, enjoyed it. The ad now includes Hardee’s co-branding as the All Natural Burger is offered by Hardee’s. As of March 2016, the ad has received over 4.5 billion media impressions worldwide and over 12 million views on the chain’s YouTube channel.
The remaining international Hardee franchises are mainly located in countries in the Middle East and Pakistan, predominantly owned and operated by Americana Group. The Middle East’s first Hardee’s restaurant opened in Kuwait in June 1980, and today there are over 300 Hardee’s restaurants throughout the region.
